How to prepare for Margit the Fell Omen

Firstly, you're going to make sure you're wielding an upgraded weapon by the time you face off with Margit the Fell Omen outside Stormveil Castle.

We were level 20 when taking on the boss, and we also utilized an upgraded version of the Twinblade weapon - one of our best weapon suggestions for the early game - that was perfect for hammering home a decent few attacks in a chained combo.

We'd highly recommend summoning in an ally for the fight with Margit the Fell Omen. We summoned in Sorcerer Rogier using a gold Summoning Sign just outside of Margit's arena - this will be available to everyone playing online or off.

Otherwise, if you're intent on going it alone, you really want to use some spirit ashes to summon a decent AI partner in the fight to draw Margit's attention away from you.

For example, you can find an Roderika in a shack on the side of a road between the gate and the castle, who'll give you a Spirit Jellyfish summon if you speak to her enough - which had a decent amount of HP to last a good portion of the fight.

Another excellent option is ranged attacks - our recommendation is finding a staff and sorcery teacher ahead of time - as whenever Margit is distracted by your AI or co-op partner, you should be looking to get off a quick few magic-based attacks against the boss.

Finally, you'll want to obtain the Margit's Shackle item from Patches, which can actually stop the boss in its tracks (remember this trick with Father Gascoigne's music box?).

This can only be used a couple of times early in the encounter, but every advantage helps...

Margit the Fell Omen tips: How to beat Margit the Fell Omen

For the first phase of this fight, Margit the Fell Omen attacks in big, sweeping strikes. Margit will very often chain two, or even three, strikes together into a chained combo, which can really catch you out if you don't back away soon enough.

There'll be a brief second where Margit holds his staff back behind him, and this is your signal to back off straight away.

Though keeping a middle distance is recommended, if you stray too far away from Margit, the boss might well use his dashing attack. Like the other attacks, Margit will hold the staff behind him, but will then rapidly sprint towards you before letting the actual attack loose.

In this situation, you need to perfectly time you dodge through the attack, or block it with a shield if you've got a decent stamina reserve.

Be wary of circling behind Margit and standing your ground for too long. Although Margit's weird tail thing is a weak point, the boss can actually use it to stagger you with a brief attack, as the tail doubles as a minor weapon. Stick to a general rule of getting in one or two strikes against Marghit's tail before backing away.

If you've got Margit's Shackle, there's two things you should know. Firstly, the item only works twice and only in the first phase, before Margit gets his big hammer out, and secondly, you can only use the item to interrupt Margit's attacks once in the fight.

Using Margit's Shackle while the boss is attacking is your best bet, as it can stagger the foe and let you get a few hits in.

Margit's second phase, when you've got the boss down to roughly 60 percent health, is tough. Margit will summon one of three items: a dagger, a sword, or a giant hammer.

The hammer most commonly closes out a series of chained attacks, and when you see Margit rise up into the air with the hammer, rapidly back away, because dodging underneath the boss and avoiding the area-of-effect attack isn't an option here.

Alternatively, Margit will throw two daggers at you in rapid succession, before pulling out the hammer for a climactic crushing overhead attack. Again, the two dagger throws can be relatively easily dodged by rolling from side to side, while the hammer attack requires you to back away quickly.

Finally, the sword. Like the daggers, the sword will be used to potentially start a chain attack from Margit. Like Margit's weird staff thing in the first phase, the boss typically uses the sword in big sweeping attacks, which are really easy to get caught out by if you're dodging in time with them. Honestly, an excellent idea to counter Margit here is to simply back off and pepper him with ranged attacks and spells.

Especially if you have some sort of ally that can temporarily distract the boss, this is a great and perfectly viable tactic - and saves you having to survive his devastating combos.
